Tour de Crypto – Cycling for Cryptocurrency Awareness and a Charitable Cause

Cryptocurrency has found an unlikely promoter – a team of cyclists who will ride across the United States to make people aware of the role of digital currencies in the future of finance. At the same time, the cyclists, who titled their endeavour Tour de Crypto, will attempt to raise funds in cryptocurrency for a non-profit organisation fighting against domestic and sexual abuse of women.

Tour de Crypto – a Different Kind of Cycling Tour

The driving force behind Tour de Crypto is represented by two enthusiastic cyclists: Jason Berlin and Jovel Velasquez. They will start Tour de Crypto in Hamptons, NY on the 14th of September and end in Huntington Beach, CA on the 9th of November. The 2-month tour will have 16 stops along its route in major US cities such as Philadelphia, PA, Washington, DC, Atlanta, GA, Houston, TX, and Phoenix, AZ.

One of the stops of the tour will be Las Vegas, in time to coincide with the World Crypto Con event. The entire route will cover 3,772 miles and the cyclists attempt to raise the equivalent of US$1,000,000 in cryptocurrency for the non-profit organisation Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC).

Spreading Knowledge and Goodwill through Cycling

The two cyclists will be accompanied by a team consisting of a driver, videographers and an audio crew. The team will broadcast Tour de Crypto via live feeds and share it on various social media platforms. Jason Berlin and Jovel Velasquez hope to create a documentary film at the end of the tour and make it available worldwide.

Their tour has a dual purpose: to help people understand the nature and role of cryptocurrency in the modern world and to raise funds for the HAWC organisation. HAWC has been operating for 40 years, 24/7, all year round, offering free shelter, support services and counselling to women who are victims of domestic and sexual abuse. The confidential and high quality services have earned the organisation a 4-star rating on Charity Navigator. It is also one of the first charitable organisations in the world that accept donations in cryptocurrency.

Tour de Crypto – the First Charitable Activity Seeking Cryptocurrency Donations

Two cyclists will attempt to raise awareness and familiarise people with crypto and blockchain by asking for donations for the HAWC organisation in different cryptocurrencies. The idea is to also educate charity organizers, as most charities, nonprofits and foundations do not accept cryptocurrencies. The wallets for donations in 9 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Monero,  can be found on the dedicated page of the official Tour de Crypto website.

The sponsors of the tour have already pledged US$130,000, the community contributions are over US$10,000, and the World Crypto Con will donate 5% of all ticket sales.

Tour de Crypto – Set to Become an Annual Event

This initiative is not going to be a one-time event. Berlin and Velasquez hope to attract more sponsors and more fellow cyclists to join their cause and make Tour de Crypto an annual event, just like the best known cycling tours across the world.
